Major Maintenance on the Alger Bridge

Every day, approximately 47,000 vehicles and 7,600 cyclists and pedestrians cross the Algerabrug between Krimpen aan den IJssel and Capelle aan den IJssel.

From August 10 to September 7, 2026, major maintenance will be performed on the bridge, which was built in 1958, and it will be closed to traffic. Preparatory work will begin in late June.

Nighttime Closures June 29 – July 4, 2026

From Monday, June 29, through Saturday, July 4, 2026, preservation work will be carried out for 5 nights on the underside of the bridge, in areas that are only accessible when the bridge deck is raised. For this reason, the bridge will be closed to all road users (vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians) between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. on these nights.
The Waterbus runs every 15 minutes between 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. and every half hour between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. Check our route planner for exact times.

Between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., the Waterbus runs every 15 or 30 minutes for free between Stormpolder and Rivium and back. Check the route planner! Several bus lines stop at the Waterbus stop, and bike-sharing bikes are also available. You can find more information here.

Road Closures August 10 – September 7, 2026

During these four weeks, the Algerabrug will be closed to road traffic. Cyclists and pedestrians can use a temporary bridge or take the Waterbus between Krimpen aan den IJssel and Capelle aan den IJssel. The Waterbus will begin service earlier than scheduled and will continue operating later than scheduled. More information will follow.
