OV-pay and Check-in
Traveling by Waterbus is easy with OV-pay or an OV-chipkaart. On this page, you can read about how to check in and out, what to keep in mind, and which payment method best suits your trip. That way, you’ll be well-prepared for your journey.
Traveling with OV-pay
With OV-pay, you check in and out using your contactless debit card, credit card, or the payment app on your phone. Simply hold your card or device up to the card reader, and you can start your trip right away. At the end of your trip, check out using the same card you used to check in. Payment is processed automatically. The amount charged is the same as when traveling with an OV-chipkaart without a discount or subscription.
Traveling with the OV-chipkaart
You can also use the Waterbus with an OV-chipkaart. Make sure you have enough credit on your card before you leave. Check in at the dock before boarding, and check out again at your final stop at the end of your trip. Traveling with an OV-chipkaart is a familiar and affordable way to travel for individual travelers.
Here's how it works
- Always check in before departure
- Always check out after your trip
- When using OV-pay, always use the same card to check in and check out
- Make sure you have enough balance on your public transit chip card
- If you don't have a public transit chip card, you can also buy an e-ticket in the online store
View Travel Expenses
Did you travel using OV-pay and want to review your travel expenses? You can view them the next day in your payment summary. There, you’ll see an entry labeled “NLOV.” Using that information, you can find your trip in the OV-pay summary.
Good to Know
Are you bringing your bike? You can always bring it along for free on Waterbus. If something goes wrong when checking in or out, or if you have a question about your trip, the crew on board can help you. If you forgot to check out with your OV-chipkaart, you can request a refund of your balance through “Missed Checkout.”
