Rotterdam – Kinderdijk

Starting from 6 October 2025, line 21 (Rotterdam – Kinderdijk) will be transformed into a tourist service: the WaterShuttle. This fast connection is aimed at the large number of visitors to Rotterdam and operates several times a day on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The journey from Rotterdam (Willemskade stop) to Kinderdijk takes approximately 30 minutes. Below you’ll find all the information about the WaterShuttle, the sailing schedule and ticket sales.

WaterShuttle: in 30 minutes to Kinderdijk

The WaterShuttle is your direct connection from Rotterdam to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Kinderdijk. No transfers or parking hassles, just a comfortable trip across the water. As the city recedes behind you, you’ll enjoy views of the Rotterdam skyline, the river landscape and iconic windmills emerging in the distance.

The WaterShuttle is ideal for tourists, families and groups: comfortable, fast and effortless. Step aboard and we’ll take you to your destination within 30 minutes. With a combination ticket, you can go straight to the Kinderdijk visitor centre and windmills, combining transport and entry in one immersive experience.

 

Timetable

The WaterShuttle brings you fast and comfortably between Rotterdam and Kinderdijk, without any transfers or parking hassle. We sail every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Curious about our timetable? View our departure and arrival times.

Fares

The following fares apply for the WaterShuttle:

  • Single journey: €9.75
  • Return: €19.50
  • Children up to 4 years: free
  • Children aged 4–11: 50% discount on the above fares

Residents of the municipality of Molenlanden will soon receive a 50% discount code. By showing their Kinderdijk Pass, they can travel at a reduced rate with the WaterShuttle. The Kinderdijk Pass can be collected free of charge at Kinderdijk.

WaterShuttle Combination ticket Kinderdijk

Make your day complete with the WaterShuttle Combination Ticket Kinderdijk. This ticket offers a discounted return trip from Rotterdam to Kinderdijk and includes entry to the iconic windmill area.

Already have entry to Kinderdijk and only want to use the WaterShuttle? No problem. Simply buy a single ticket on board. However you travel: welcome aboard!

Still want to go to Kinderdijk with Waterbus?

Travelling from Rotterdam to Kinderdijk? You have two options:

Option 1: via Ridderkerk
Take the Waterbus from Rotterdam to Ridderkerk (approx. 26 minutes) and transfer to the Driehoeksveer ferry to Kinderdijk.
A one-way ticket for the Driehoeksveer costs €2.35 and the crossing takes about 10 minutes.

Option 2: via Alblasserdam
Take the Waterbus from Rotterdam to Alblasserdam (approx. 19 minutes) and continue the final part to Kinderdijk:

  • on foot (about 1 hour), or
  • by bicycle, which you can take on board for free (about 10 minutes).
